MYKONOS

Chora (Mykonos Town) Sites & Attractions

Chora (Mykonos Town) is a very beautiful old island town that manages to maintain a balance between tourist development and traditional characteristics. Mykonos Chora is full of whitewashed houses, quaint windmills, a multitude of chapels, busy alleyways with flowered balconies and a multicolored fleet of fishing boats at the port, all which create a breathtaking spectacle. While in Chora, you have the opportunity to take a stroll through Alefkandra, Mykonos “Little Venice” and visit the windmills, the stunning Paraportiani Church as well as the Archaeological Museum, the Folklore Museum and the War Museum.

Take some time out from you busy vacation schedule and visit the Well of Giannaros and the 3 Hellenistic towers in Platis Gialos, the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani in Ano Mera, the Pre-historic and Ancient ruins at Panormos Bay.
We also suggest you catch a boat from Ornos to Delos Isle to see the ancient city dedicated to Apollo; which was also a major trade center of the Mediterranean during ancient times.

As long as the sun is shining, the main attraction on the island are the numerous beautiful beaches and the clean blue-green Aegean Sea. On Mykonos Island you can find family beaches such as Ornos, as well as others packed with sunbathers or others “far from the maddening crowd”. Mykonos Beaches are ideal for all types of vacationers; from water sports lovers to nudists. The most popular beaches are Paradise and Super Paradise, as well as Agia Anna, Agios Ioannis, Agios Stefanos, Agrari , Elia, Ftelia, Kalafati, Kalo Livadi, Megali Ammos, Paragga, Panormos and Platis Gialos.

After sunset, everything changes. The crowds disperse into the streets and into the restaurants, tavernas, cafes, bars and clubs to enjoy the amazing nightlife entertainment for which Mykonos is so well-known. In the summer, an outdoor cinema – “cine Mando” – operates, while various art exhibitions, theatrical performances and concerts are held as well.
